Ten Things Tuesday

1. I love my new camera. I'm still learning but getting better.

2. Going back to work full time next week. I'm glad and sad.

3. I only have a few days left to finish my 101 in 1001 list. I need to get to work.

4. I think I'm going to add to that list to do the 365 challenge. All it is is taking a picture every day for a year.

5. There is a fly on my windowsill. He's having trouble flying.

6. I love putting Connor in funny hats. I need to learn how to knit my own.

7. I'm a total newbie at photoshop. I need to get some books.

8. I made cookies for Garrett yesterday. He was happy.

9. Garrett made our washing machine work again. We still need a new one but at least we don't have to lug over bags of laundry to my parents' house.

10. I'm hungry. Maybe I'll go to lunch soon.

More Connor-this is rapidly turning into a blog about only Connor

Ok, here's one of Julia too.

Ok, here's another one

Because I find it so stinkin' cute.

New Camera

I bought a Nikon D3000 with Christmas money. I've been wanting a nice DSLR for awhile now and was finally able to do it. I still have a TON to learn and maybe a few more pieces of equipment to buy but here are some shots. More to come of course.

Please go to sleep Connor

Your daddy and I need to wrap Christmas presents.

Fussy Fussy Connor

Connor, Connor why are you cranky? We've had so many hypotheses. First it was the forceful let down, you gulping too much milk too fast. Fixed. Still fussy. That was combined with hind/foremilk imbalance. Fixed. Then he was diagnosed w/ acid reflux. First on Zantac (mild improvement) then on Prevacid (a little bit more improvement) now chiropractic treatments (we've seen the most improvement with these). So, shall we say, "kind of fixed." He doesn't seem to still have reflux pain, just crankiness and gassiness. I think I'm finally going to try an elimination diet to see if this helps Connor's intense crankiness. It was my last resort (I suppose it should've been my first resort but with very little sleep I didn't want to give up my favorite things, espescially caffeine. I think caffeine is what has kept me alive these last 3 months.) Grr. I'll keep you updated.

On a happier note, the 1st 2 weeks of weight watchers (which I've very loosely been following due to the abundance of cookies and candies this time of year, I'll recommit myself after Christmas, I promise.) I've lost 4 pounds. 2 pounds a week isn't too shabby.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. I have a generous boss. He bought everyone iPod nanos for Christmas.

2. I love my boys.

3. Lisa is going to do more pictures of Connor in January. I'm so excited!!! She's starting a business in January and I'm so excited for her to get it going.

4. I can't believe 2009 is almost over. That means I get a tax return soon : )

5. Thank you Mom for watching my sometimes crabby baby.

6. My dad is on facebook now. Find him if you haven't already.

7. Thank goodness Christmas shopping is over. The mall was CRAZY on Saturday.

8. I need help with my 101 things list. I only have around 30 so far. Maybe if the baby would sleep I could finish my list.

9. Mmmmmm, Starbucks.

10 How cute is my child?!?!?

Ten Things Tuesday

1. Wow I'm doing this late but at least it's still Tuesday.

2. I got the tattoo on my wrist redone on Saturday. For some reason it had really faded.

3. French macaroons are my all time favorite cookie.

4. I'm still working on my 101 things list. I will get it done.

5. Christmas letters are written, just need to be addressed and sent out. Hope they arrive before Christmas.

6. I'm toying with the idea of "munchy monday" & posting a new recipe every Monday. Hmmm, we'll see if this idea sticks.

7. I got a very pretty scarf at the Christmas party gift exchange on Saturday courtesy of Jo Parmley's lovely tie dyeing talents.

8. Ugh, 8:00 meeting tomorrow morning.

9. Love my job & people I work with though.

10. Yuck, my house is a mess. Will my baby ever let me clean?

101 in 1001

I have decided to participate in 101 in 1001. Meaning I'm going to accomplish 101 semi important to important things in 1001 days. I'll let you know what that date is once I finish the list and say "ready, set, go!"

Until then, here are some (if I do say so myself) very cute pictures of bath time Connor for those of you who aren't on facebook. And for those of you who are on facebook, I'm sure you won't mind seeing them again.

Ten Things Tuesday (I'm a dingbat)

I've been posting all morning, not realizing it's Tuesday. Hence the dingbat comment.

1. It's so cold in the office this morning. Thank goodness for my space heater.

2. Garrett sings cute songs to Connor. He doesn't know the words to any of these songs so he makes up words that go with the situation. "Go to sleep grouchy baby" etc.

3. I've had leg cramps since yesterday. I think it's time to find some extra potassium and see if that helps.

4. I'm hungry.

5. We're short staffed today. Boo.

6. I went to bed with wet hair last night and woke up with perfect curls. Usually when I do that, it looks like a just slept with wet curls. Not flattering. But today I lucked out.

7. Time to pump :(

8. I haven't bought any Christmas presents yet. I get paid a bonus on the 15th so I think we'll start then. 10 days for all our shopping is enough right?

9. It's my birthday on Sunday. Sweet and Sour Chicken and birthday cake. Weight Watchers free day I think for my birthday :) I'll be good the rest of the week though.

10. I always have trouble with #10.

A different approach

After recomendation from my cousin Aimee and others we're going to try chiropractic treatments for Connor's reflux/colic. I have an appointment set for Thursday morning for a consultation. It would be great if we could make the little guy feel better without having to give him medicine.

I buttoned them....and they fit!!!

I just put on a pair of pre-pregnancy work pants this morning. After looking at the mirror and thinking, "hmmm, my stomach is looking pretty good." And....they fit. Two weeks ago I had to wear them w/ a rubber band. Last Thursday I decided that I'd stopped losing weight by just living and needed to do something to drop the last few pregnancy pounds plus the 20ish pounds I just didn't want. I decided to join weight watchers online. I haven't done a weekly weigh in (they suggest only weighing yourself once a week because of water weight fluctuation discouraging you) but the proof seems to be in the pudding (or pants). I'll have to update on the poundage drop Thursday morning.

Side note: Please pray for my coworker who was just handed a diagnosis of probably enphysema. She's been going to the doctors since last February trying to figure out her ongoing cough, was admitted to the hospital yesterday w/ a very difficult time breathing and given this news. She's a very active person so this is a real hit to her emotionally.

New Medication and stuff.....

Connor has been dealing with acid reflux problems for some time now. There were a number of things we thought were the problem in the beginning but we seem to have finally figured it out. He was on baby Zantac for about 3 weeks. We saw a little improvement but not enough to say "it's REALLY working." We just had the doctor write us a prescription for Prevacid. We're really hoping this will do the trick.

Garrett and I went out last night with some friends. We went to Macaroni Grill (mushroom ravioli is to DIE for) and then bowling. I actually did better than I normally do....until the last game. I started to feel really achy and just downright crummy. As we were driving home I thought I must be getting sick. "No please, I DO NOT WANT SWINE FLU, especially with an infant in the house." It turned out to be yet another plugged milk duct. Thankfully it seems like it's going away.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. I need to start posting on other days besides Tuesdays. At least Tuesdays keep me active.

2. I got new clothes this weekend. I finally have a pair of jeans I feel good in and a few new sweaters that are rather pretty.

3. I like being able to build a new wardrobe. There were clothes in my closet that didn't really fit my personality anymore but I wore them because it's all I had. I can now slowly add in things I like.

4. I kicked a box out of the way this morning and knicked my toe on it. I didn't think much of it cause it didn't hurt much......until I was walking downstairs. It started really hurting so I took my sock off and noticed my toe was bleeding. I had sliced it pretty good.

5. I'm attempting to work a full day today. Yikes.

6. Garrett's car died for a little this week but he got it fixed. It was really scary to drive it while it was sick with (what Garrett decided was) the swine flu.

7. Connor has been extra wiggly the last few nights and eating every 2ish hours. I'm thinking it might be a growth spurt. I hope!

8. We stood Connor up next to our friend's son John (who is 3 months older than Connor) and they were exactly the same hight. We have a tall baby.

9. I really want to go back to Teatro ZinZanni's. It was so much fun but at $135/ticket (for the cheap section) it's a luxury that will have to wait :(

10. I'm hungry. Lunch isn't for another hour or 2. Guess I'll eat the satsumas that Karyn gave me.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. I spilled 2 oz of pumped breast milk this morning :(

2. Garrett's parents spilled some this weekend too.

3. Garrett and I went to see 2012 on Sunday. It was OK. Good special effects but many "that so wouldn't happen" moments.

4. New Moon was awesome! Yeah, lots of movies this weekend.

5. I finally set up my digital photo frame at work. I love having dozens of Connor pictures to look at all day.

6. I think Connor's reflux medication is starting to really work. knocks on wood...

7. Christmas music is on the radio & yes, I'm one of the huge dorks who LOVES it. Thankfully my lovely co-worker Kathy loves it just as much as I do.

8. Our management company here at the office paid to have all the mucky leaves cleared away from the parking lot and walk ways. Sounds good right? Except these are the same people who DIDN't pay to have 2 inches of solid ice (that hung around for 2 weeks) cleared away. Which is more dangerous???

9. I can't wait for Thursday. FOOOOOOOD!!! I love Thanksgiving food.

10. I need a new wardrobe BAD. I don't think there's anything in my closet I absolutely love.

Shots, yes. Short, NO!

Today Connor had his 2 month well baby check up. I can't believe how fast this is flying by. We answered all the normal questions...how's he sleeping, blah, blah, blah. He weighed in a 12lb 1 oz (55-60th %tile) and his length measured 24 3/4 inches (97th %tile !!!). Long and skinny he most certainly is. No wonder he doesn't fit properly into any clothes. If it's long enough, it's baggy around the middle. Head circumference was 80th %tile. He got his first set of shots. Of course he hated that. He screamed for a few minutes (complete w/ tiny baby tears running down his cheeks) and then was fine. He took a long nap this afternoon (giving me a chance to nap since I'll be up until all hours of the night watching New Moon!!!!!). He woke up crabby a little bit ago (of course right when I get a phone call). He ate for awhile and now is back asleep on my lap. I love when he sleeps on me. He always looks so sweet. Daddy will be all alone w/ him this evening while I'm off at the movies so hopefully this afternoon's events won't wreak havoc on Garrett once I leave.

So excited for the movie. We're seeing a double feature...Twilight then New Moon.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. I'm typing this from work :( Even though it's good to be back at work, I'd rather be home with my baby.

2. My mom and I went on a Babies R' Us shopping spree yesterday. Bought a new sling, clothes (on clearance of course), a play mat, some bottles and bottle brushes. We only had 2 bottles (both were free samples) since he's a boob baby. Now that I'm at work he needs a few more bottles.

3. There is a draft down by my feet. Guess I didn't notice it yesterday since I was wearing boots.

4. Cold weather makes me crave Starbucks. They put cocain in Starbucks right? That's the only way I could be this addicted.

5. Connor went to sleep late last night. Like 12:30 late :( However, he then blessed me with 5 1/2 hours of sleep. This is the longest he's ever gone. I haven't slept longer than 4 hours in 8 weeks.

6. Who else is excited for New Moon? ME ME ME! I know Julia is too. Mom and Megan are secretly excited. They're closet Twilight fans.

7. Pumping is a pain in the rear but I'll do it anyway. I want my baby to have breast milk (espescially during flu season).

8. I need to start writing our Christmas letter. I really want to get one out this year.

9. Tonight I need to load pictures of Connor onto my digital photo frame and bring it into work.

10. It feels good to wear heals again.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. I'm thankful for the generosity of our family during this financially difficult few months.

2. The cat just told the dog who is boss. He always seems to forget that the cat rules the roost.

3. I can't believe how early it's getting dark now. It's not even 5 o'clock!

4. I can't watch a TV show or movie where a little boy dies without losing it.

5. I get stupid excited when Starbucks starts using their red cups. It means Thanskgiving and Christmas are right around the corner.

6. I'm reading a new book (and it's not a Twilight book). "Ines of my Soul". So far it's good. Surprisingly I seem to like historical fiction. Another historical fiction book I loved was "I, Mona Lisa." I would've underlined the titles (as proper grammar would dictate) but blogger doesn't let you.

7. Happy birthday last Friday to my mommy.

8. Only 5 pounds left. If I actually got serious about losing weight instead of just letting it come off as it would, I think it would fall off even faster.

9. Speaking of weight, I think Connor is like 12ish pounds now.

10. Time to fold baby laundry.

Good Sleep (only the mom of a newborn would call this good though)

Connor went down around 11:30. He fussed a little around 1:00 and I decided to feed him before I went to sleep. Then I swaddled him (while drowsy). I've found he hates to be swaddled when he's fully awake but doesn't mind if he's sleepy. Then I put him down with his new sound machine (on white noise setting) and he slept until almost 4:00. Then fed him and he was asleep until 7:00. Then he even took a nap this morning so I got a few extra hours. Yay for sliding a little closer to human on the "human/zombie scale."

Ten Things Tuesday

1. Julia got some pictures taken today by the gal that did Connor's newborn photos. We love Lisa!

2. Connor is getting so big.

3. I am wearing my wedding rings again!

4. Missy is playing with baby socks. She loved adult socks before baby socks came into the house. Now she can't get enough of the baby socks. They're the perfect size for her to fling in the air.

5. Please, please, please sleep well tonight Connor.

6. I found a camera I want but have to wait until we can afford it. Maybe after Christmas or tax return this winter. Boo! I want it now :(

7. I love my iPhone. How was it we lived without cell phones just a few years ago and now they're attached to our hands 24/7?

8. Paramore's new CD is awesome. There's not one song on the CD I don't like.

9. Our swing is dying. It was a garage sale find so at least we didn't spend anything on it (picked up by Garrett's grandma). We tried changing the batteries but that didn't work :( We might have to buy a new one soon. It's one of the only places he'll nap that isn't in my arms.

10. I found a sound machine for $10 today (originally $40). Maybe it will help Connor stay asleep.

Garrett, although I could've totally driven myself. No contractions yet.

It's Tuesday Again

1. I was hoping Connor would stay awake a little longer so he would sleep longer. Who knows what tonight will be like. I tried everything to get him to stay awake but this child just wants to sleep.

2. I just put him in his bassinet to see if he would sleep by himself. It's not looking promising. He's already kicking around. As soon as I pick him up he'll fall asleep again.

3. I got Connor's birth certificate today.

4. Yep, he's awake.

5. Yay, Garrett is home now.

6. I need to finish the dishes when I'm done with this.

7. I got a 1 1/2 hour nap today!

8. I'm hungry. What's for dinner?

9. We had french toast w/ cooked apples. Yum.

10. Almost time to take Connor to bed.

A Break?!

Garrett has taken Connor to our friend's house so I can have an afternoon off. I'm torn between being excited and missing my baby. I haven't been away from him since we took him home over a month ago. I'm going to try to enjoy this day though and then I'll be that much more excited to see him tonight. I just hope he takes a bottle ok. He'll take them occasionally but certainly prefers the boob.

My next break will probably come next month when "New Moon" comes out. Yes, I will be at the midnight showing.

Here are some more pictures of Connor from his photo shoot.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. Connor slept for a 4 hour stretch last night!!!! Of course it didn't start until 3AM but I'll take what I can get.

2. I don't know what I'd do without my Moby Wrap. It's the only thing that will settle him when he's super fussy.

3. I woke up this morning to Garrett clicking his camera at me. I guess Connor and I were both sleeping and he was holding onto my nose. It made Garrett laugh.

4. Regarding #3, Yes, we co-sleep. It's how everyone is happiest. I can respond to him before he starts to cry & he actually sleeps. He hates to be alone. Plus, I get lots of snuggle time.

5. I'm really wanting Starbucks today but haven't left the house. If only I could get Garrett to bring me one home but he would say no :(

6. Connor was 1 month old yesterday. This last month is just a haze of days blending together. I've never been so tired or happy in my life.

7. The Barefoot Contessa is making cookies that look yummy. I don't have all the ingredients though. Guess I'll make them a different day.

8. I'm going to start a load of laundry when I'm done with this.

9. Breastfeeding has been a challenge (I have an oversupply that chokes him sometimes) but we're sticking to it. I'm not giving up yet. When we get it right its really special.

10. Flash Forward is this seasons best new show! According to me of course.

Ten Things Tuesday

I think it's Tuesday, right?

1. My baby boy is sleeping in my arms. He's so cute.

2. He's growing so fast & getting so strong. He can already hold his head up for over a minute.

3. Number 1 and 2 were written hours ago. I had to change, feed, burp, change, feed etc.

4. My grandparents are going to be here tomorrow morning!

5. Yay for the baby sleeping right now.

6. I'm going to make sausage pasta tonight. Yum.

7. It's really windy today.

8. I get to watch our recorded episode of Dexter tonight!

9. Why is it that baby's have colic AT NIGHT. If they're going to cry for 3 hours straigh, can't it be in the middle of the day?

10. Even though Connor drives me insane late at night, I love him like crazy.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Ten Things Tuesday

I've skipped a few weeks of TTT but I think you'll forgive me since I have a newborn at home and was in bed recovering from my headache for the 1st week I was home.

1. Connor is sleeping on my lap.

2. I haven't had any caffeine yet today. I'll need to change that soon.

3. Connor already has a little cold. Garrett tried to stay away from him while he was sick but Connor still got it.

4. What is sleep?

5. I love being mom.

6. Only 10 pounds to go until I'm at pre-pregnancy weight!

7. I'm hoping my wedding ring starts to fit soon. It almost does.

8. I can fit into all my pre-pregnancy shirts. I was running out of shirts there at the end but now it's like having a whole new closet. (Not that I always make it out of my PJ's)

9. Garrett and I caught up on all the seasons of Dexter and now we have to wait for each new one every week. We liked being able to just watch the next episode when there was a cliff hanger, now we have to wait.

10. Time to get Connor into his car seat so we can got to my mom's.

Monday, October 5, 2009

1st Day Home Alone

Garrett went back to work today. I was nervous to be home alone for so long with Connor but it's been going pretty well. I've even gotten stuff done (laundry, took garbage out, cleaned cat pan and some dishes). Now I have to figure out what we're going to have for dinner. Garrett will be home in about 2 hours. The "Barefoot Contessa" made macaroni and cheese today that looked fantastic. Maybe I have all the ingredients for that.

Newborn Pictures

We got some newborn shots done of Connor this weekend. I think they turned out great. I'll post a few here but if you want to look at all 53 (if you have the time) you can click HERE and it'll take you to the online album.

Connor's Birth Story

Here is Connor's birth story. I'll try to remember as many details and be as candid as possible. Hopefully no TMI moments for anyone. Birth isn't glamorous but it is amazing. The story ended up pretty long.

I woke up Friday morning (my due date) at 5:30ish to a few very small gushes of fluid. Because they were so small I wasn't sure if it was my water or something else. I decided to go back to bed for awhile. If this was it I knew I extra sleep couldn't do me harm. It took me about an hour to get back to sleep (lots running through my mind) and then woke up at 7:30 with a few more small gushes. At this point I was pretty sure it must be my water but didn't want to wake Garrett up if I was just peeing myself or something ;). I decided to clean the kitchen. It was a mess and if I was having a baby that day I didn't want to bring him home to a messy kitchen. In the 20 minutes it took me to clean the kitchen I soaked through a panty liner. I decided to call a triage nurse at Providence Hospital to see what she thought I should do. She thought it sounded like this was it and to come in with our stuff. I woke up Garrett & told him we needed to go to the hospital. He was very surprised since I hadn't been having any contractions & it was my due date. He got up and started calling the people who needed to be in the know. I got in the shower, got dressed and then we had some breakfast and headed to the hospital.

We got to triage about 9:30 AM. They took me right in and put the baby's heart monitor and contraction monitor on my tummy. I was having contractions every 10 ish minutes but wasn't feeling them. They took a sample of the fluid I was continuing to leak. They put the fluid on a slide and if it forms certain patterns (viewed under a microscope) then it's amniotic fluid. It was so we were there to stay. We knew we would be having a baby in the next day! I was in my own room by 10:45 and my mom, and sister arrived shortly after. My first nurse came in and got everything started. Got my hep lock put in (IV w/o anything hooked up). The doctor came in around 12:30 probably and said we needed to get things going since my body wasn't contracting on it's own like it's supposed to when your water breaks. They hooked my hep lock up to a bag of fluid and then started my pitocin drip at 1:45. The pitocin worked pretty quickly and I was having contractions I could feel (not painful YET) in about 15 minutes. For the rest of the afternoon and evening my contractions got stronger and closer together. Within maybe 2 hours of getting the pitocin my contractions were every 2 to 3 minutes. I was using my hypnobabies recordings to keep myself relaxed and was able to deal w/ the contractions rather well. I got into the tub around 7:30 which felt nice. I was in there for maybe half an hour or 45 minutes. While in there, my contractions really started to change and became quite painful. I was checked around 8:30 and was 3 cm. I was quite discouraged. My doctor was good though and said he was happy with how the labor was progressing (slowly but surely). I guess the first 4-5 cm take the longest and then everything speeds up. I tried to relax and breath through the contractions at this point but they were about 2 minutes apart and lasting a minute. I had maybe a minute between each and knowing I had so much further to go I asked for the epidural. The anesthesiologist came in quickly (thank goodness. I've heard of women having to wait for an hour or more after requesting it). Ahh, sweet relief...until the insane pressure in my butt started. It felt like my butt bone was going to break in half. I still felt no pain in my stomach though. After dealing w/ the butt pressure for an hour or two we had the anesthesiologist come back and give me a booster or drugs. It worked for a few contractions but then I was back to the pressure. I relaxed as much as I could for the next few hours until I was kind of feeling the urge to push. I held off telling them because I didn't want to exhaust myself pushing forever. Maybe 20 minutes later my mom went and got the nurse to check me. I was 10 cm and + 2 station. The nurse wanted me to give a few practice pushes to see how I did before they called the doctor. I guess I was doing well because the doctor was there within a few minutes. Pushing was the most intense part of the birth. I can't imagine what it would've felt like without the epidural. I swear I felt everything. Once I felt his head came out I pushed even harder because there was no way I was letting him hang out in there any longer. After a total of 20-25 minutes of pushing Connor came shooting into the world. Everyone wanted to know his name right away so we finally told them after months of waiting. Connor William. Everyone (Garrett, my mom, my sister, Garrett's mom, and my friend Dianne) in the room cried, except Garrett. He was just happy I was done screaming. Guess he didn't like seeing me that way. I tore a little and the doctor stitched me up. I guess there was a patch the epidural wasn't covering because he stuck me with the needle and it really hurt. The doctor gave me a shot to numb the area before he continued.

Everyone came to have a quick look & wait for his stats. 8 pounds, 5 ounces and 20 inches. He scored an 8 and 9 on his apgars. Garrett & I sent everyone out at this point so we could spend time with our new baby. He was so alert & so cute. I tried breast feeding and he caught on right away. Our family came in one last time to see him and then they took off to go home. They'd had a long day/night too. We tried to get some sleep. Got a little but not much. About an hour after he was born I had the nurses help me to the bathroom. I'm so glad I got up and moved. It was super hard to get out of bed the first time but it got easier and easier.

After the 2nd or 3rd time up I noticed an intense pressure/pain in the base of my head & neck. I mentioned it to the nurse and she thought it was probably just stress from just giving birth. She brought me some ibuprofin. It didn't really bother me until I stood up again. Then people started visiting and I was sitting up more. The pain in my heead and neck kept getting worse and worse. I couldn't get comfortable no matter what position I was in. I tried to sleep for awhile.

I woke up to Garrett telling me that Connor was having some rapid breathing and they were going to take him to the NICU to monitor him. I was out of it and they were going to leave me in my room but there was no way my baby was going to the NICU w/o me. I walked down there w/ Garrett. The pediatric nurse explained what they were doing but I was in such intense pain I couldn't focus. I asked someone to call my nurse to take me back to the room. It was so hard leaving Connor down there. The nurse in the NICU asked if I'd had an epidural (which I had) and said it's possible I had a spinal headache. When I got back to my room my nurse called the anesthesiologist to see me. She asked me my symptoms and determined I did have a spinal headache. To fix it they have to basically do a 2nd epidural but instead of putting medicine into your spine, they put your blood into your spine. The blood forms a clot which plugs up the leak. The nurse gave me some percocet & I let the blood patch do it's work. When I woke up about an hour later I felt way better. I was able to feed him in the NICU throughout the night.

The next day we found out we would have to leave Connor for a few days. They had decided to give him antibiotics and do a blood culture to make sure he didn't have an infection. They took extra precautions because my water had been broken for 24 hours. I was so upset that we would be going home without our baby.

We visited him throughout the next 2 days until Tuesday (the day he went home). Monday I spent most of the day there but had a horrible headache that kept getting worse throughout the day. It hadn't felt like the spinal headache (just a really bad headache). The longer it lasted the more it started feeling like the spinal headache. I called Garrett (who was picking up Jager from his parents house) and asked him to come take me home. I was hoping that laying down for the night would take care of the headache but I woke up Tuesday morning & it was still just as bad. Garrett went to start discharge papers for Connor and I went to the ER to see what they could do for my pain. I was given 2 liters of fluid (they think dehydration is what brought back the symptoms) and some IV narcotic drugs for the pain. The drugs didn't help too much for the pain. Just made me care a little less. The doctor told me I needed to stay laying flat for a minimum of 48 hours and drink as much caffeine & water as possible. Caffeine helps slow the reabsorption rate of the spinal fluid which gives your body a head start in filling the void. He also gave me a pain killer w/ caffeine that I could take at home. At this point I was still in a good amount of pain but we had a baby to go pick up. We took care of last minute paper work and then took him home.

The last week has been tough. I had to stay in bed for those 48 hours. Plus most of the day on Friday & Saturday. It was even painful just to get up to go to the bathroom. The only thing that kept my headache under control was laying flat on my back. Feeding him was tricky too since I had to stay as flat as possible. Today, Monday the 28th was the first day I've had no pain associated w/ the headache. Other than the headache, I'm doing well & we love our little boy so much.

Sorry this got so long but lots happened.

Connor William Beslow born!

Connor was born yesterday morning, 9/19/09, at 5:26. He was 8lb 5oz and 20 inches long. I'll update w/ a longer birth story later once we're home. Lots of unexpected details that make for a very long and interesting day.

Ten Things Tuesday on Wednesday

Oops, I'm a day late.

1. I want this baby out of me.

2. This pumpkin spice latte is yummy.

3. Someone turned the heat up in the office and it's 75 degrees. WAY too hot.

4. Leaving for maternity leave in a few minutes!!!

5. Too bad I don't get a paycheck while on maternity leave.

6. Had another doctor's appointment. I'm now 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cm. dilated and 2/3 of the way effaced. Things are still progressing, just slower than I hoped.

7. Dr. estimates the baby to be born at 7.5 to 8 pounds. Of course that's an estimate but he said there's no indication of a 9 or 10 pound baby. Thank goodness.

8. I made yummy muffins the other day.

9. I'm going to work on that quilt. Maybe it'll almost be done by the time baby is born.

10. Off to Ivars for lunch.

39 Weeks-1 To Go.

How far along?: 39 weeks. How did it get this close?
* Total weight gain: 33 pounds. Still within the recomended range. I'm really anxious to lose it though.
* How big is baby?: Who knows. Julia keeps being mean and saying he's going to be huge because my tummy looks bigger than mom's did in pictures. I'm convinced it's because she had a posterior baby and I dont so mine is sticking is butt out more.
*Maternity clothes?: I used to think they were cute. Now I had a new appreciation for regular clothes
* Stretch marks?: Hate them.
* Sleep?: Crappy
* Best moment this week?: I'm progressing. I'm now 50% effaced and 1cm dilated (as of Wednesday).
* Movement?: Lots still. He turns my tummy into the weirdest shapes.
* Food cravings?: Maple Brown Sugar Mini Wheats (still these)
* Labor signs?: He's down even more if you could believe it. Plus above info of 50% effaced and 1cm dilated.
* Belly button in or out?: Mostly out.
* What I miss: Wearing cute clothes & my heels.
* What I'm looking forward to: At this point there's not much left but to meet my baby.
* Milestone: 1 week left. Is that a milestone?

Ten Things Tuesday

1. This baby needs to vacate the premises.

2. I miss wearing my wedding ring.

3. I'm still working. Yes, I'm crazy.

4. I slept horribly last night :(

5. I woke up on time and did my hair today.

6. I love fresh corn on the cob season.

7. Please be born tomorrow baby boy. The date will be 9/9/9. Wouldn't that be a nice day to be born?

8. We got a TON of rain this weekend. I think our plants are happy. Unfortunately so are the weeds.

9. The sweater I wanted at Janie and Jack went on sale. It was originally $42 ( I was NOT paying that much for a baby sweater). Here's a picture of it. It's MUCH cuter in person.

10. While looking for the pirate ship sweater, I came across this sweater.
And I want it so bad, but it's $43 so hopefully it'll go on clearance before long.

38 Weeks

How far along?: 38 weeks.
* Total weight gain: Eek. Let's not go there. I'm just anxious to lose it. However, I didn't gain any between the last 2 appointments. It's finally slowing down.
* How big is baby?: Who knows.
*Maternity clothes?: I'm getting tired of wearing the same things over and over. I want my real clothes back.
* Stretch marks?: I find it unfair that some women don't get them.
* Sleep?: I've actually slept more soundly the last few nights.
* Best moment this week?: Getting home each day. Traffic has been so bad.
* Movement?: Lots of pushing against me
* Food cravings?: Maple Brown Sugar Mini Wheats (still these)
* Labor signs?: He moved down even more. Some cramps & braxton hicks but nothing consistent. At my last appointment I was 25% effaced but not dilated yet.
* Belly button in or out?: Mostly out.
* What I miss: Walking like a normal person.
* What I'm looking forward to: 3 Day weekend & meeting my baby.
* Milestone: Nothing really.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. It's September. I'm due this month! I can't believe it's finally here.

2. Pumpkin spice lattes come out today!

3. I just ate breakfast but I'm starving.

4. I love chocolate soy milk. So yummy.

5. I just realized the last 3 items were about food or drink (lame much?).

6. I need to finish cleaning my house but I get so tired by the time I get home.

7. This weekend is a 3 day weekend. Maybe I'll get some rest and some stuff done. Garrett, please don't make any plans for us. We don't have time.

8. I went shopping on Friday night & it made me want regular clothes.

9. We have a tour of the labor and delivery unit tomorrow. Hopefully it's helpful.

10. I have quickly become a Project Runway addict. I can't believe I didn't watch this show in previous seasons.

I have a "love/hate" relationship w/ this whole "full term" business

The knowledge that I'm "full term" and could have this baby any day drives me crazy. I could be pregnant for almost 4 more weeks (if I go late) or I could have the baby tonight (please?!). I know, I know, I just need to tell myself that he'll come when he's ready (& I know that) but it's so hard when I just want him here now. Maybe he's waiting until my ENTIRE house is clean (instead of just parts of it). If that's the case, I'll finish tonight!

37 Weeks "Full Term"

How far along?: 37 weeks.
* Total weight gain: Eek. Let's not go there. I'm just anxious to lose it.
* How big is baby?: At this point it's anyone's guess (probably huge)
*Maternity clothes?: I want to wear real jeans again!!!
* Stretch marks?: Ugh. I hope they lighten. They're worth it though (I hope).
* Sleep?: I pretty much dread going to bed. It's just not restful anymore. Still this!
* Best moment this week?: Getting the bathroom sparkly clean. I actually like my bathroom now.
* Movement?: Lots still. Not too many big kicks though. He's out of room.
* Food cravings?: Maple Brown Sugar Mini Wheats
* Labor signs?: He has moved way down & lots of crampies (however, it doesn't matter anymore, he can come whenever at this point and be perfectly healthy).
* Belly button in or out?: Mostly out.
* What I miss: Cute clothes. I feel like a schlub.
* What I'm looking forward to: Meeting my baby.
* Milestone: I'm full term. My baby could come at any time now. Guess I should pack my hospital bags and install the carseat.

Ten Things Tuesday

1. Tuesdays seem to come and go so quickly. A few more Tuesdays and I'll have my baby :)

2. Had another Dr.'s appointment today. I had to be tested for group B strep. We'll see if I'm + or - in a few days.

3. Tonight is the last hypnobabies class.

4. I can't wait for maternity leave.

5. My maternity shirts are getting short :(

6. I'm excited for New Moon to come out in November. Yes, I'm a Twilight fan. I can't help it. It looks like it'll be better than Twilight. A bigger budget this time around doesn't hurt.

7. The fair starts this week. I can't wait for all the yummy foods & fun exhibits.

8. I love my snuggly, wuggly kitty cat Missy.

9. My friend Dianne's daughter turned 2 yesterday. It seems like just yesterday she was calling me to come pick her up to take her to the hospital.

10. It's cloudy today & I'm totally ok with that. I think only a Northwesterner would say that.

Not sure what to title this...Maybe weekend recap, etc.

Saturday: My mom came over and helped us clean, clean, clean. We got a lot done. Then Garrett and I went to a worship team get together. It was nice to sit and chat with others from church. We got home and watched War of the Worlds. It's such a strange movie.

Sunday: We took it easy during the morning. Then took off to his softball games. FYI-do NOT sit on bleachers if you're near full term pregnant. They were not made for regular bodies, let alone pregnant ones. I was so uncomfortable by the end of the 2nd game (why are they always double headers?). Then we took off to my parents (we were celebrating Garrett's birthday that day). We had sweet & sour chicken w/ tempura zuchini and green beans (everyone in my family has this for their birthday dinner). It was so good and we thoroughly stuffed ourselves. Then it was getting late so we knew we needed to do birthday cake even though we weren't hungry. By the time we were done w/ cake we had all sworn off eating for the rest of our lives. We were dead stuffed. Never again! We headed home and Garrett helped me with my hypnosis and then I fell asleep.

Etc.: Tomorrow is my last hypnobabies class. After that it'll just be up to me to practice as much as possible before Baby Frankly (dont' worry, you'll know his real name soon) comes. I got some good practice in when I had a migraine last Thursday.

It's really crunch time for me at work. I need to get everything cleaned up and assigned to others before I have to leave. Guess I better get to that.

36 Weeks

How far along?: 36 weeks.
* Total weight gain: Eek. 30 pounds. They say many women slow down weight gain in the last month. Here's hoping.
* How big is baby?: At this point it's anyone's guess.
*Maternity clothes?: Yes, and I can't wait until I can fit in normal clothes again.
* Stretch marks?: Some : ( We'll leave it at that.
* Sleep?: I pretty much dread going to bed. It's just not restful anymore.
* Best moment this week?: Eating fresh dungeness crab that we caught on Saturday. Catching it wasn't as great. The water was pretty rough.
* Movement?: All the time & non-stop hiccups.
* Food cravings?: Silk Chocolate Soy Milk
* Labor signs?: He has moved way down & I have some crampy/braxton hicks things several times a day.
* Belly button in or out?: Mostly out.
* What I miss: Walking without having baby head and shoulders hit me in the pelvis.
* What I'm looking forward to: Meeting my baby.
* Milestone: I don't know. I officially have less than 1 month till my due date. Of course if he's stubborn he might decide to stay in longer.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Ten Things Tuesday

Another Tuesday is here. The weeks are going by so quickly

1. I can't stop sneezing today.

2. The doctor confirmed that the baby has dropped so I know where all this pelvic pain is coming from.
3. I didn't have any caffeine this morning. We'll see how I do.

4. Yay. We got our diapers in the mail yesterday. I started prepping them last night. Three or four more cycles of hot wash should do it.

5. I think I've started nesting some. I was flying around the house last night organizing everything in sight & Garrett just kept telling me to go to bed. I wasn't tired yet.

6. I can't wait to wear my normal, cute clothes again. Oh, and my pretty heels.

7. We're watching hypnobirthing videos in class tonight. It'll be interesting to see the hypnosis at work during a birth.
8. So far this is the 2nd hottest summer in Seattle history. 2nd only to a summer in 1958 when we had 9 days over 90 degrees. We've had 6 days so far this year (with the hottest day on record thrown in there for good measure) with a possible day #7 tomorrow. Anyway, it'll be an interesting story to tell our little one that I was pregnant with him during a summer like this.

9. I'm down to weekly OB appointments now. Can't believe it's the last month. Frankly is due in exactly 1 month.

10. Here is the tree my mom, sister and I painted in the nursery. We free handed it & it ended up being a lot easier than we though. Plus (if I do say so myself) it turned out really cool.

We also refinished an old white dresser. It had ugly brass drawer pulls on it & an extra piece on top that we removed. My dad added new panels, painted it & added new drawer pulls. It'll make a nice dresser/changing table.

How far along?: 35 weeks.
* Total weight gain: Ok, I know you guys probably want a #. At last count it was 27.
* How big is baby?: About 5.5 pounds
* Maternity clothes?: Yes, hopefully won't have to buy anymore.
* Stretch marks?: Some : ( We'll leave it at that.
* Sleep?: Getting more and more uncomfortable.
* Best moment this week?: Playing in the wave pool. Having your tummy feel weightless is pretty cool at this point.
* Movement?: All the time. He seems to be hitting me lower & lower.
* Food cravings?: Not really anything in particular.
* Labor signs?: No.
* Belly button in or out?: Mostly out.
* What I miss: Being able to roll over without tons of pain.
* What I'm looking forward to: Putting together the car seat and stroller that came today & dyeing the prefold diapers which should be here Monday.
* Milestone: 35/35! Guess you could call that a milestone. Tuesday it'll be exactly a month until my due date.

Ten Things Tuesday

I've seen this on a few blogs/message boards. Thought I'd try it out. Ten random thoughts each Tuesday...

1. I totally forgot about a breast feeding class I wanted to go to yesterday. It was free too :(

2. Garrett & I set up the bassinet last night. At 3:30 AM we awake to a "bump bump" sound. Missy had hopped into it and was making it swing into the wall. I think that'll be the last time she jumps in it. It freaked her out.

3. Garrett's friend Ryan finally came and got his junk out of our garage last night.

4. I need to get my toes repainted. The chlorine at the water park did a number on the polish.

5. Speaking of said water park, I wore a bikini at 8 months pregnant this weekend. Brave much?

6. We have our 4th hypnobabies class tonight. Garrett has been so much more supportive and has tried so much harder than I ever thought he would.

7. I NEED to finish my quilt I'm making. How am I so good at procrastinating? Who taught me this skill?

8. I have a friend who just found out she's pregnant. She's due in early April she thinks so our kids will be in the same grade.

9. I'm really hoping my kitty doesn't feel too left out once the baby comes. Right now she's the cuddle baby.

10. I suppose I'll explain why the baby's nickname is Frankly. My mom uses the term "frankly" A LOT. "Frankly......." So, many years ago, I told my mom that my first born son would be named Frankly, and it's stuck.

Items checked off my to-do-list

Friday I ordered our diapers & today we ordered our carseat/stroller. I'm so glad to have those items taken care of.

We had a good time at Great Wolf Lodge. The wave pool (where I spent most of my time) was very fun and relaxing. I did go on a few of the milder water slides which were fun too. Sometime I'll have to go back and go down the bigger slides. It was nice to never have to worry about being cold or getting sun burnt since it was all in doors.

We saw the movie "Julie & Julia" on Friday night. It was great fun. Go see it.

* Total weight gain: I'm not sure I like this questions anymore. Still within the healthy range though.
* How big is baby?: About 5 pounds
* Maternity clothes?: Yes, hopefully won't have to buy anymore.
* Stretch marks?: Some : ( We'll leave it at that.
* Sleep?: I wish it was better but waking up 3 times a night to pee doesn't create the deepest sleep.
* Best moment this week?: Have the weather cool off. It was way too hot last week.
* Movement?: He's had lots of hiccups this week.
* Food cravings?: Ehh, not really anything. Maybe starbucks.
* Labor signs?: No.

* What I'm looking forward to: We're going to Great Wolf Lodge this weekend. I'm pretty excited.
* Milestone: The nursery is pretty much done. We just need to buy a few last minute items but other than that, it's done. Eek! We still need a carseat though.

Baby Shower

I had my baby shower yesterday. It was so much fun even though it was about 90 degrees. I got a ton of great stuff. Thanks everybody! I also wanted to thank those that put on the shower for me (Cheryl, Mom, Julia & Jo for helping w/ tie dye), it was very fun. I should get to see how the tie dye turned out today & I'll wash and dry it and post pictures for everyone to see.

It's only supposed to reach 84 today. Which normally we would consider pretty hot (maybe even above normal) for this time of year. But compared to 104, I'll certainly take it.

32 (&1/2) Weeks Pregnant

How far along?: 32 weeks.

* Stretch marks?: Some : ( We'll leave it at that.
* Sleep?: I'm waking up every 2 hours to pee & getting more and more uncomfortable.
* Best moment this week?: Painting the tree in the nursery. I'll try to post pictures later. It was misserable getting it done (think 95 degrees in a small bedroom) but it looks great.

* Food cravings?: Rice Krispie Treats

* What I miss: Not sweating so much in the heat.
* What I'm looking forward to: Baby shower! It's on Sunday
* Milestone: Not sure. Maybe actually getting a good start on the nursery. The dresser is done too. We refurbished an old dresser that was in my parents basement.

In other news....

It looks like it might reach 100 degrees by Wednesday. Our air conditioner at work is set to be no higher than 73 and the lowest our poor little air conditioner can keep it is 80. It's about 90 outside & I'm starting to melt.

I have a quilt I'm sewing for our little one. I've had the fabric since before we knew he was a HE. I've obviously been procrastinating. Not sure why, since it's something I like to do. I guess I'll have to get on that.

Garrett & I had a good 3 day weekend. He got some crab on Friday & we had a nice dinner at my parents. Saturday we went to our friend's parent's house for their annual 4th of July party. They live on a lake and I even braved wearing a swim suit to cool off in the lake. It was hot.

Crabbing! etc.

Crabbing season opens up this week in the Everett water. Garrett is going to go out Friday morning. I can't wait, I love fresh crab.

Looks like the weather will be holding up for the 4th (which is a rare occurance in the Pacific NW). We like to joke that summer starts July 5th in WA. However, it looks pretty good this year.

The weekend after Independece Day weekend we're headed to Garrett's family's cabin in the San Juans. I'll be there that weekend, then back to work Monday & Tuesday, then I'm headed up there for Wednesday through Sunday. I can't wait to hide away for a few days. We'll go crabbing some more while we're at the cabin. Crabbing opens up there on 7/15.

Friday, June 26, 2009

What a day!

Last night Jaeger got out. Garrett & I looked all over for him. I felt awful this morning. Julia called to say that he had been found this morning. Phew! Garrett had posted a craigslist ad last night & a lady found him & the ad & called Garrett this morning.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Forgot to do this Friday (27 weeks)

How far along?: 27 weeks.
* Total weight gain: Just had another appointment & 17 pounds @ 27 weeks. Not so bad right?
* How big is baby?: Aprox. 2.5 pounds & 16 inches
* Maternity clothes?: Yes, & some are getting tight : ( And my favorite pair of pants came out of the dryer w/ a hole in them. The pocket is ripping off. Grrr....can't they make quality maternity clothes that don't cost $200/ pair?
* Stretch marks?: Some : ( We'll leave it at that.
* Sleep?: Less painful now that I've figured out how to use my snoogle(http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Snoogle-Total-Body-Pillow/dp/B0000635WI) pillow (totally worth the money) but I'm still waking up every hour or so.
* Best moment this week?: Torturing our family & friends w/ keeping the baby's name a secret. So much fun. Sorry guys.
* Movement?: I can feel him rolling around in there & love to watch my belly shake.
* Food cravings?: Ewww. We're back to food aversions unfortunately.
* Labor signs?: None thankfully.
* Belly button in or out?: Mostly flat w/ the top poking out
* What I miss: Good sleep, diet pepsi & having a whole closet of clothes.
* What I'm looking forward to: Finishing our patio & starting my birthing classes. I'm going to be using hypnobabies classes (http://www.hypnobabies.com/) taught by a doula in Lynnwood (http://birthinserenity.com/). I've heard really good things about these classes & I'm hoping for them to help me have the med free birth Garrett & I both want.
* Milestone: Passing my 3 hour glucose test.

Monday, June 22, 2009

Hooray!

Just got my results for the 3 hour glucose. All were within normal levels. Who knows why the 1 hour came back elevated.

Friday, June 19, 2009

Another glucose test :(

Tomorrow I have to take the 3 hour glucose test. Unfortunately one time drinking that nasty drink wasn't enough. I didn't pass the 1 hour. So, I'll be sitting in an uncomfortable lab waiting room for 3 hours on a Saturday morning. I didn't want to waste vacation time doing this so Saturday it is.

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Another appointment down, etc.

Had my monthly Dr.'s appointment today. Everything looks fine, blood pressure is good, weight gain was even normal, and baby's heart beat was good. I was measuring right now schedule too. As my doctor says, "a boringly normal baby" (which of course is a good thing). I'm actually down to appointments every 2 weeks now. Wow, time flys (I don't know if flys is spelled right or not :S )

Jager got out of the back yard last night. Ugh. Oh well, we got him back. The ding bat just likes to run around the neighborhood and then come back.

Glucose Test

I had my 1 hour glucose test today to check for gestational diabetes. I had never thought about a sugar crash happening. I guess it makes sense since I had just downed 50 grams of glucose in about 3 minutes. I felt great when I got home around 10:45, had some breakfast, cleaned for awhile & then was down for the count for 1.5 hours. Good thing I feel better now cause I'm off to Garrett's graduation. Congrats to him!
